"SAT Preparation The Black Book & The Blue Book Are All You Need"
No SAT vocabulary lists | No annotating | No math drills | Just an SAT book that actually works
The "SAT Prep Black Book" gives you unique, effective SAT strategies from Mike Barrett, a SAT tutor with clients all over the globe who pay him hundreds of dollars an hour for phone tutoring. The Black Book is a must-have, whether you need to
- make a perfect 2400 to be competitive at an Ivy,
- score a 450 in each section to claim a sports scholarship,
- or anything in between.
The Black Book and the Blue Book are all you need to get your best possible SAT score.
The Black Book is the ideal SAT book for 3 major reasons
- It actually works, making it unique in the SAT prep field. There are no lists of “SAT vocab” to memorize or anything like that. Instead, you'll exploit design flaws in the SAT, using its own “SAT tricks" against it.
- The Black Book contains 250+ solutions for real SAT questions from the Blue Book, so you know it actually works. (You'll need the 2nd edition of the Blue Book to use these solutions.)
- The Black Book is a clear, concise roadmap to the SAT. (See the table of contents below). It explains exactly how every SAT question works, and how to beat it in the least time possible.

Mike has spent over a decade deconstructing the SAT and teaching tens of thousands through a variety of formats. He uses his love of sports and video games, and his extensive experience as a tutor and coach, to analyze and explain the test. Many students have reported higher SAT scores after using his ideas for an afternoon or a weekend; others prefer to set aside months to get ready. No matter your timeframe, this SAT book can help.

Very good at explaining the SATS and it made the SATS seem very not scary AT ALL. It was a very good read even though you wouldn't think so. It was good at explaining why the SATs are designed the way they are and how the questions are always simple, and the answer IS ALWAYS IN THE TEXT (at the the ENG section). Other than reading this book and practicing very little questions, I didnt study much for my SATS and I didn't get the best scores. Despite that, this book gave me some good strategies. You just have to actually practice and implement them. I didn't practice much, which is why my scores sucked. But it was good enough to get me into all the colleges I applied for, so you know what, don't stress too much about SAT scores unless you're thinking of getting into an IVY or something. You'll be fine. This book was worth it so I recommend!Product details

SAT Prep Black Book The Most Effective SAT Strategies Ever Published eBook Mike Barrett Reviews
I really enjoyed tutoring my nephew utilizing this book! It really streamlined the study process and focused on strategies that that are often overlooked. He took the SAT two weeks ago and said that he felt he did better than the other time he took it! Crossing my fingers for positive results!
Honest, and easy to read. It makes so much sense that I am surprised it is not the way all our children learn to take this crucial test. Now I know my son will be comfortable with his approach to the exam, he's actually excited to read this, daily! and can't wait to try the practice exams again. Thank you so much Mr. Barrett. Fingers crossed!
My 16 year old brother thought the strategies suggested in this book were very helpful. The biggest hurdle for kids with regards to standardized test is knowing HOW to approach the test. This book helps test takers understand how to approach testing and studying.
Some unique insights.
Generally good but I disagree strongly with some of the advice. I agree with the comments in Gregory Bravo's review.
I'm a tutor and I bought this book to see what he has to say about reading comprehension. It's good. I agree with his analysis of "how" the College Board designs the SAT. As a result I have also changed my tuition approach to RC in the GMAT and GRE. There are no "inference" questions! They might be called by that name, but inferring is the last thing you should do.
Rather than come up with his own questions, the author has chosen to analyse actual SAT questions from the Official Guide. Nothing wrong with that; I would use the same approach if I were to write an SAT tutorial. This allows the book to be less huge but it does mean you need to buy two books. The Guide, anyway, is pretty much essential since it has the all-important practice tests.
Regarding Gregory Bravo's criticisms I am in complete agreement. Vocabulary IS important; not only for the SAT but also for the iBTOEFL. There quite simply is no reliable way to answer sentence completion questions if you have no idea what the words mean. Likewise, I believe that ALL the necessary math formulae should be memorised.
Overall, the SAT PREP Black Book is strong on verbal technique, but relatively weak on the math section. I didn't find any great insights into math problems.
For me, this book was worth buying because of the new approach to reading comprehension.
I thought that this book was incredibly helpful. My SAT preparation materials consisted of this black book and the college board blue book (this book is designed to go hand in hand with that book). I ended up with a score in the low 2000s, so I was pretty satisfied. This book gives great strategies, but at the same time, practice is paramount.
This book is amazing for the reading section and so worth the price. I used this book, together with the Blue Book, to teach my son (no review course). His PSAT score went up over 10 points (or the equivalent of over 100 on the SAT) and when he took the ACT with the ACT Black Book (which is very similar to the SAT Black Book) it went up even further - the equivalent of another 100 points. If you are on a budget and only can afford 2 books-- this is the one to buy (with the Blue Book). I also think it will help even with the new SAT since he gets you thinking about how the test needs to be objective. BUY IT
I'm finding the book extremely useful. It teaches everything you need to know about the SAT. The strategies are gonna help you understand how the College Board designs SAT questions and how to answer them in each section. The book also contains practice questions and answers keys with explanations as well so you can pratice all the strategies. A review of all math concepts the SAT tests on is also included is really nice too. And finally, make sure you purchase the Blue book to go along with the book like the author recommends. It's gonna help you follow along for the practice questions, plus it's the only book you should practice with. This Black book and the Blue book are all you need to prepare for the SAT.
